Daman and Diu (Gujarat: દમણ અને દિવ, Marathi: दमण आणि दीव) is a union priority of the territory of India. Over 450 years these enclaves on the Arabian Sea coast were part of Portuguese India, along with Goom and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Goa, Daman and Diu were incorporated in the Republic of India 19.12. 1961, Portugal did not acknowledge the Indian annexation of these territories all until 1974. Goa, Daman and Diu were unique union priority territory until 1987, when Goa became a state, leaving Daman and Diu union priority as its own territory, each enclave constituting one of the two District Unions.
Marathi and Gujarati are the two main languages, the use of Portuguese is declining because it is no longer official nor taught in schools (even though 10% of the population of Daman speek Prtuguese). There are Portuguese Creole languages spoken in Daman (known as a lingua da Casa, “Home Language”) and Diuu (lingua dos Velhos, “Language of Elders”).
Daman
Daman is situated 160 km north of Mumbai. It occupies an area of approximately 72 km ², and tourists can find here historical churches, splendid forts, numerous palm trees, sleeping villages in the coves and fine sandy beaches.

Daman has a picturesque port and main sites are Moti Daman Fort, St. Jerome, Nani Daman, Church of Bom Jesus, Our Lady of Donorousa. Beaches of Daman are pristine and beautiful.

Diu
Diu is quiet and secluded island located on India’s west coast.
This area is less than 40 km ² and the total length of the island’s coastline is about 21 km. Diu is a former Portuguese enclave and considered to be exotic destinations.
